Wenger Meats & Ice Co is a family-owned company that provides retail and wholesale services in the food industry. At our two locations in Central Pennsylvania, we provide services ranging from a retail delicatessen, catering and beef processing to deer processing and cold storage.
We have been able to grow as a result of our professional attention to many seasonal needs that are typically outsourced by larger firms, and by facilities that are versatile enough to accommodate those needs. Additionally, our full line of cured and smoked meats have been developed from time-tested recipes and made available to the general public as well as a growing number of faithful wild game enthusiasts.
Come to Wenger’s for top quality meats! We will cut your meat to your specifications. We also have a full-service deli. We make most of our deli salads and desserts in house, and we promise to provide you with the individual attention and prompt service you deserve.

1920 - Our Beginning
Carlisle Hygienic Ice Co. plant was built in the 1920′s. This company manufactured block ice and rented freezer lockers to individuals. Home freezers eventually diminished the need for ice and space.
1964 - Our Fire
Fire virtually destroyed the Carlisle Hygienic Cold Storage Company building in 1964. The damage was estimated at more than $100,000.
1978 - Our Expansion
The Wenger’s purchased the business in 1978. They developed their business to include retail meats, catering, a delicatessen, lunch trucks and wholesale packaged ice distribution to convenience stores, beverage distributors and supermarkets.
1997 - Our Remodel
Remodeling and expansion in 1997-98 produced the present day larger, more attractive store on East Louther Street.
2000 - Newport Ice
We purchased the Newport Ice Company to increase our storage and smoking capacity, and to increase our business footprint.
2007 - Beef Products
2007 to present. While scaling back the Lunch Truck & Wholesale Ice we added a smokehouse at our Newport location and grew our deer processing business by adding a whole line of venison products. That was our segway into making our own beef products such as sweet bologna, ring bologna, snack sticks and jerky as well as curing and smoking our own hams and bacon.

“Wenger’s is truly outstanding in many ways. They have a simple breakfast sandwich. Bacon, egg and cheese. It is great! Cooked fresh! Hot bar!! Throwback items stuffed peppers, stuffed cabbage and other wonderful comfort food. Sandwich Rye? Marbled Rye? Sub? Very nice sandwich selection and the sandwich makers are good listeners for the demanding sandwich customer. Meat!! Glorious meat!! I like the steaks!! They’ve recently installed refrigerated display case near front door. Quiche, prepared meals, salads, soups and many more. Furry friends? There are nice bones for the furry friends at the checkout. The butchers are good listeners and follow through on special cut requests. The customer service reps are friendly and attentive. I LOVE this place.”

“Okay, so when your looking for some home cooked food, or amazing tater salad, this is the place to go. I make it a point to go at least three times a year for one thing…..The most amazing Cheese steak sub in pa. People from out of town travel to get here because of this unique sub. Its marinated, real steak strips, with the fixins if you want. The best part about these are that, you actually ruin the flavor if you put sauce on it. they are that good. “
